INNOVATIVE BIOPLASTIC PRODUCT BRINGS 100% BIODEGRADABLE AND COMPOSTABLE FOOD WASTE BAGS TO LOCAL AUTHORITIES

Sam Marsh, Sales Director of Imperial Polythene Products Limited, is pictured here with 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable food waste bags used by Westminster City Council, and an increasing number of local authorities throughout the UK.

Imperial Polythene were one of the first UK manufacturers of 100% biodegradable and compostable green waste and food waste bags in the UK. Their products meet the EN 13432 standard and will break down using air, moisture and sunlight by natural means in around 40 days.

The company's green waste and food waste bags are made with biolice, Europe's first biodegradable plastic ingredient made from cereal flour and not starch, launched in 2006 by Limagrain Céréales Ingrédients (LCI), who are a subsidiary of the Limagrain Group - the EU's leading seed group.

"Biolice is made using a process unique on the bioplastics market, using whole cereal grains from a number of specific Limagrain maize varieties," explains Nathalie Gorce, Marketing Manager for Biolice at LCI. "The product's innovation lies in the combination of cereal fractions with a biodegradable polymer.

"Biolice is 100% biodegradable and 100% compostable - yet it has excellent strength and durability and is tear resistant. It is therefore ideal for applications such as refuse bags, as shown here, as well as for flexible films, netting, tubular extruded products, thermoformed products and for shopping bags," she adds.
